Personality: Slow, dense, thick-headed… these are all words that have been used to describe Joachim numerous times. There’s a lot of truth in those labels, though with them comes a charming naiveté that many people can’t help but find endearing. Despite being slow side, Joachim is by no means stupid, but he certainly sees the world in his own way. Many people find him to be humorous and oddly charismatic, though he certainly does not make a conscious effort to be winsome. His unique view of the world earns him a lot of laughs at his expense, but he generally assumes that people are laughing with him rather than at him.

First and foremost, Joachim is known for his kind heart and good intentions. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and as a self-proclaimed superhero, he’s not afraid to make it known that he’s willing to fight for anything in the name of love, truth, beauty, and great justice. He is deeply honest and very trusting of those who are kind to him, though he is very good at being able to tell when someone is being deceitful, has bad intentions or is being generally shady. Of course, what kind of a superhero would he be if he couldn’t see through an evildoer’s lies and vile trickery?

Joachim is also impressively selfless. This goes hand-in-hand with his hero complex. A hero must not waste time thinking only of himself – he must constantly direct his thoughts towards the innocents he is sworn to protect. His superhero complex is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his many (arguably endearing) quirks – of which there are far too many to mention, but he is known for picking up random blunt objects and using them as bludgeons in the name of justice.

Background: Born in Romania to a family of aristocratic vampires, Joachim has been alive for over four hundred years – four hundred and some change, as honestly, he’s lost count. Four hundred years might sound impressive at first, but once people realize he’s spent at least a third of that time sleeping, the idea loses some of its shine. Sleeping or not, Joachim spent the majority of his four hundred years living in the Blue Castle, which stands just outside the small town of Bistritz. Most members of the Valentine family sleep in coffins, safe in the lowest level of the castle. Over the years, Joachim and his siblings (Keith and Hildegarde – affectionately nicknamed “Hilda”) have spent their time guarding the rest of the family in shifts, often letting their shifts overlap by a few years or decades so that they could keep each other company.

Spending night after night sitting at home and looking after his moldy relatives started to bore Joachim after a few centuries. He and his siblings had always taken short trips into the outside world, and he’d done a fair bit of traveling in the past, but he could never stay away from the castle for too long. To his chagrin, he always had to cut his adventures short and return home to do guard duty, where he would eagerly await his next chance to leave the Blue Castle again. In his travels, he had discovered pro-wrestling – a sport he had developed an immediate interest in. At first he started off as a spectator, but it wasn’t long before he started entering amateur wrestling tournaments under the name of Grand Papillion. His ring persona quickly became popular with local children, who revered him as a hero of sorts – an idea that Joachim quickly became very fond of. An argument with his brother, Keith, gave him what he saw as a golden opportunity -- after Joachim accidentally broke Keith’s prized possession (an ancient and invaluable sword, which was also a family heirloom), the two of them had a falling out and Joachim denounced his duty to the Valentine family, taking off shortly after.

Leaving Romania and his siblings behind, he found himself under the tutelage of the Great Gama, a world-renowned pro-wrestler who had expressed interest in taking Joachim on as his student a few years previous, after watching him take the amateur wrestling scene by storm. A few short years studying under the Great Gama and Joachim was ready to go pro – but he still felt unfulfilled. He took it upon himself to use his innate vampire strength, as well as what he had learned from the Great Gama, to turn his ring persona into a real superhero. Thus, Grand Papillon was born. During the off-season, he spent his days wandering throughout Europe and helping people in need, in the name of truth, beauty and great justice.

He has come to Arcadia at the Great Gama’s suggestion. Being one of Gama’s greatest students, Joachim has a lot to offer any students who wish to become true heroes.
